Former Penn State Player Garry Gilliam Thinks School Announced THON Results At 4:09 On Purpose

first_imgGarry Gilliam Jr. tweets about time that Penn State announced THON total.Penn State held its annual THON fundraiser this past weekend, and in total, the school raised an amazing $13,026,653.23 towards fighting pediatric cancer. Numerous athletes got involved for the cause, and a number of viral videos even emerged from the event. The school might have also gotten a little shot in at the NCAA – at least that’s what one former player is suggesting.Penn State officially announced the results of the fundraiser Sunday at 4:09 on Twitter. Garry Gilliam Jr., who played offensive tackle for the program from 2009 to 2013, suggested that the timing might have something to do with former head coach Joe Paterno’s 409 wins – 111 of which were restored this past January.$13,026,653.23 !!! #FTK #THON2015— Penn State (@penn_state) February 22, 2015And the 2015 THON total is…$13,026,653.23 and revealed at 4:09. Coincidence? I think not. Keep being great Penn State!!!— Garry Gilliam Jr. (@Garry_Gilliam) February 22, 2015Gilliam wasn’t the only person to notice the timing of the tweet either, for what it’s worth. Was this intentional? We may never know. But it’s clear that at least some portion of Penn State’s fan base is happy that Paterno has been restored as the all-time winningest coach in college football history.last_img read more

Ox-rated! Dream night in Genk for Liverpool ace after injury nightmare The Italian has been most often deployed as a defensive midfielder during his time in Serie A, but has also gained experience playing further forward in midfield.Sassuolo’s sporting director Giovanni Carnevali recently revealed Inter were the frontrunners to sign Sensi, who had also attracted rumoured interest from fierce rivals AC Milan.Carnevali also admitted that the club did not stand in the way of the player’s move to Inter in order to finance their new state of the art facility.“In all honesty, we sold Sensi to Inter in order to finance the construction of the Mapei Center,” he told Gazzetta dello Sport.Antonio Conte’s side have now confirmed an agreement with Sassuolo, paying a reported €5 million fee to take Sensi on loan for the 2019-20 campaign. The club also have the right to purchase him in a year’s time for around five times that amount, should he cement a place in Conte’s starting 11 this season.Sensi represented Cesena in Serie B and San Marino Calcio on loan in Serie C prior to making the switch to Sassuolo in 2016.The 23-year-old has been capped twice by Italy at senior level, making his debut in November 2018 against the USA.The Nerazzurri have also added Valentino Lazaro and Diego Godin to their squad over recent days as they aim to improve upon last season’s fourth-place finish, which ensured qualification for the UEFA Champions League. The club have also been strongly linked with moves for attacking pair Edin Dzeko and Romelu Lukaku throughout the transfer window.Conte will be looking to lift his fourth Scudetto having won three in consecutive seasons with Juventus, but he will face a stern test in toppling his former employers – who have now won Serie A for eight seasons in a row.last_img read more

Alves: Messi was disrespectful

first_imgDani Alves has criticised long-time team-mate Lionel Messi after the Argentina star alleged that the Copa America was corrupt following his side’s loss to Brazil.Messi hit out at CONMEBOL and the tournament as a whole following the semi-final defeat and once again after Argentina’s third-place clash with Chile, a match that saw the Barcelona star sent off under dubious circumstances.Messi suggested the officials had been favouring the tournament hosts  throughout the competition. Article continues below Editors’ Picks ‘Everyone legged it on to the pitch!’ – How Foden went from Man City superfan to future superstar Emery out of jail – for now – as brilliant Pepe papers over Arsenal’s cracks What is Manchester United’s ownership situation and how would Kevin Glazer’s sale of shares affect the club? Ox-rated! Dream night in Genk for Liverpool ace after injury nightmare The Argentinian forward was particularly critical of the efforts from the Video Assistant Referee and match official Roddy Zambrano, as he used a post-match interview to criticise the decision to not award a penalty to Sergio Aguero. He once again was critical following a red card in the third-place match, as Messi was sent off for a confrontation with Chile midfielder Gary Medel in which Messi was far from the aggressor. The claims were slammed by CONMEBOL, who called Messi’s rant “unacceptable” after the forward railed against “corruption” and “a lack of respect” following his red card against the two-time reigning champions.Messi’s comments also prompted Brazil boss Tite to step in and say that a star of the 32-year-old’s magnitude needs to show more respect. And Alves echoed his coach’s sentiments, reiterating that Messi remains a dear friend, but a friend that he believes was in the wrong. “A friend is not always right just because he’s a friend. You can say it in the heat of the moment, but I still won’t agree,” Alves told  SporTV’s ‘Bem Amigos’ .”Firstly, he’s disrespecting an institution such as the Selecao, in my view. Secondly, he’s being disrespectful with several professionals who put a lot of things aside so they could be there fighting for a dream.”I’m a friend who always tells the truth when it’s due, and I think he was wrong for saying these things.”Alves also went on to defend Brazil team-mate Neymar, who missed out on the Copa America due to an injury suffered in a pre-tournament friendly against Qatar. The 36-year-old, whose contract at Paris Saint-Germain has expired,  backed his team-mate as one of the game’s best in the wake of criticism after Neymar skipped out on the Ligue 1 champions’ first training session of pre-season.last_img read more

‘Neymar should play for club which makes him happy’

first_imgNeymar needs to put wellness before wallet when it comes to choosing between Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain, according to former Brazil boss Dunga.PSG signed Neymar in a world-record €222 million (£200m/$250m) deal two years ago but the attacker now wants to rejoin Barca, despite the likelihood of having to take a pay cut.Part of the 27-year-old’s motivation appears to be his desire to reunite with close friends Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez, with whom he forged a fearsome forward line. Article continues below Editors’ Picks Emery out of jail – for now – as brilliant Pepe papers over Arsenal’s cracks What is Manchester United’s ownership situation and how would Kevin Glazer’s sale of shares affect the club? Ox-rated! Dream night in Genk for Liverpool ace after injury nightmare Messi a man for all Champions League seasons – but will this really be Barcelona’s? Dunga knows Neymar better than most in football, having handed him the Brazil captaincy in 2014, and thinks a comfortable environment should be his first priority.”It’s important that he chooses where he’s going to be happy, where he will enjoy playing,” Dunga said.”People don’t understand that the Brazilian player is different from the European one.”We like to play, to have fun, otherwise we get tense, sad… I hope that next season he can give us a lot of joy and demonstrate his full potential. It’s up to him.”He has many qualities, technical quality. He does everything a player needs to do and has matured a lot. He wins fouls now and he likes more to score, and not only to dribble.”I think he’s in a good moment.”Dunga was speaking at an event commemorating the 25th anniversary of Brazil’s triumph at the 1994 World Cup.One feted member of that side, former Deportivo La Coruna striker Bebeto, has an intimate understanding of the pressure associated with providing goals for club and country. The scorer of six World Cup goals counselled his compatriot on the even greater importance of living up to his stature back in Brazil.”I hope with all my heart that Neymar can put his head in place,” Bebeto said.”Neymar doesn’t know the size of his name. He has to be an example. We have to talk about Neymar making goals, helping the Brazilian team.”I’m very supportive of him, because he’s a great player and any team in the world has a place for him.”last_img read more
