WWL rolls into Melbourne

first_imgAccording to WWL, the tower crane was part of a fleet of cranes specifically designed by Marr Contracting to meet the challenges of the Gorgon project.WWL transported the dismantled tower crane from the Port of Fremantle to the Port of Melbourne onboard its ro-ro vessel Aniara. “Typically, such cargo is transported by road or rail. But the costs of such transport are high in a country as vast as Australia. Perth to Melbourne is almost 3,500 km (2,175 miles) by road, resulting in exceptionally high monetary and environmental costs. Ro-ro provided the ideal solution for moving the crane around in a timely manner to meet the project schedule,” says WWL. In cooperation with the NorSea Group in Australia, WWL loaded the dismantled tower crane onto 25 roll trailers for the transport to the point of loading at Fremantle.According to WWL, the roll trailers were developed for all kinds of breakbulk weighing up to 140 tonnes and measuring 28 m in length. The cargoes, which ranged in weight from 4.4 tonnes to 21 tonnes, remained on the roll trailers for the entire journey. www.2wglobal.comlast_img read more

Gamecocks top Missouri 65-60

first_imgCOLUMBIA – South Carolina’s men’s basketball team has struggled holding on to second half leads in games recently. That was not the case on Tuesday, however, as the Gamecocks claimed a 65-60 win over Missouri in a game that allowed them to stay out of the Southeastern Conference cellar.South Carolina won the way it did early in the season – using tough man-to-man defense, dominating the offensive boards and forcing turnovers.Sindarius Thornwell led the way for the Gamecocks. He led the team in scoring with 14 points, pulled down give rebounds, dished out six assists, had two steals and blocked a shot.“Sindarius came in the last two days and practiced like a guy who said what happened at Vanderbilt was embarrassing and I’m not interested and I’m not ever interested in being a part of a team that goes through that again,” said USC coach Frank Martin.USC also got a solid game from Laimonas Chatkevicius who scored 13 points, pulled down eight rebounds and had two steals.“Laimonas, today, played with a little enthusiasm, a little energy” said Martin. “That’s all we ever ask from him. Don’t go out there playing like you despise being on the floor. Go out there and actually play like you enjoy doing this and good things will happen.”The Gamecocks also got a boost from former Wade Hampton athlete Brian Steele, who scored eight points with all coming at crucial points in the game.“When I put him in there to start the second half, he catches it in the corner, puts his head down and jumps and tries to shoot it over two guys,” said Martin. “I’ve told him that’s why he stopped playing.“He finally starting adapting, finally started to do what we’re asking him to do. Give him credit. He couldn’t practice. He’s playing on one leg right now. He hurt his knee, but he had the courage to line up and make some shots.”Steele finished with eight points, but was two of five from 3-point distance. He also was two of two from the free throw line with both coming down the stretch.“I would say I have the green light,” said Steele. “They definitely encourage me to shoot it. If I miss a shot it doesn’t really affect my confidence.”The win improved USC to 12-11 overall and 3-8 in league play, while Missouri fell to 7-17, 1-10 respectively.Following several road losses where it has held a second half lead, being able to hold off the Tigers at home has everyone feeling better.“We’re pretty upbeat,” said Steele. “I think we’re feeling pretty confident right now. We knew we needed to go out there and get a ‘W.’ We haven’t been playing that well in the second half lately. We just wanted to go out there and take care of business tonight.”The Gamecocks return to action Saturday when they travel to Lexington, Kentucky for a Valentine’s Day matchup against number one ranked and undefeated Kentucky.Note…Missouri guard Wes Clark suffered a dislocated right elbow with 13 minutes remaining in the game. He was taken to Williams-Brice Stadium to receive X-rays.How long he will be out of action was unknown.last_img read more
